Diabetic Support GroupImmanuel has several members of it's congregation who are either type 1 (juvenile onset) or type 2 (age onset) diabetics. A support group for those of us (the web master is a type 1 diabetic since 1965) who have diabetes has been formed. We meet the third Thursday of the month in the Library. Please check the calendar for the time. For those who do not know anyone who is a diabetic or who has the disease, the reason this support group was formed is for the diabetic and their family/friends to have others to talk with. It is nice & very helpful to have others to talk with who understand the stress, strain and problems we face on a daily basis. Also those who live with us need support of others who know and understand what it is like to live with the diabetic. Our meetings are for the diabetic to realize that they are not alone. And to help their family or friends learn more about and to ask questions. We discuss many different topics at our meetings, we do not just focus on diabetes. Because having diabetes covers all aspects of our lives. We have diabetics of over 40 years and several who have had it less than 5 years. Being a diabetic is nothing to be ashamed of or to keep a secret. It is best if the diabetic tells people they know about their condition. If you have a low or high blood sugar reaction, it is in your best interest if others know you are a diabetic. MISSION STATEMENT Joyfully proclaiming the Good News of Jesus in word and action, growing in faith and discipleship, and caring for one another.
